Frederic Edwin Church: Romantic Landscapes and Seascapes

9 November 2007 - 1 March 2008

Organized by Adelson Galleries in conjunction with Michael Altman Fine Art & Advisory Services and Meredith Long & Company, Houston, Texas, Frederic Edwin Church: Romantic Landscapes and Seascapes features over thirty paintings by premier American artist, Frederic Edwin Church (1826–1900). A seminal figure in the development of the Hudson River School of American landscape painting, Church garnered critical praise and public acclaim for his monumental canvases of some of nature's most awe-inspiring locales, both in the Northeastern United States and abroad. Frederic Edwin Church contextualizes the artist's creative production spanning nearly four decades, bringing together rarely seen paintings from private collections with those acquired by notable public institutions, such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and The Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated catalogue, with contributions by Gerald L. Carr and Lisa Bush Hankin.
